Free Parking
November 30, 2004 at 1:13 pm AST by Rodney MacLeod

The city of Charlottetown is trying to encourage people to go downtown. The last two years they have had free parking downtown for the Christmas season. According to CBC this only cost the city $20,000. I think that this is a great thing the city is doing for the businesses downtown, but some employees according to members of the police committee, were abusing this free parking and taking up the parking spaces on the street. What good is giving customers free parking if the employees are going to take the best spots. By taking up the best spots in the downtown, for what would probably be for the duration of an eight hour shift, these employess are potentially turning away the customers that the city spent $20,000 to bring downtown. If the business owners had taken a stronger stance on parking abuse by their employees, then they could possibly have the benifit of customers coming downtown again this year fir free parking.

Evil Mule Java
November 17, 2004 at 4:38 pm AST by Rodney MacLeod

It seems there is a new Coffee shop that is franchising across the United States and they are relying on public outcry against their name to drum them up great publicity. Bad A$$ Coffee has opened their first shop in Chicago and this has spurred another Illinois town to condemn the company name. The town council of Antioch took a stand and has condemned the name. I think that it is great that they took a stand, although I am not sure what condemning the name does or means legally. Antioch is probably a small town that Bad A$$ Coffee would never open. I know this may be an innocent enough word for their company name; they do say that it is a reference to the donkeys that haul the coffee, so why dot Bad Donkey, or Stubborn Mule. There is enough out there corrupting the kids of the world, why do we need profanity in big letters adorning the front’s businesses for everyone to see. I don’t mean to sound like a prude, but young children are impressionable and can not discern the difference between a donkey and profanity. There is no need to confuse these children. If the coffee is good it will succeed on its own. I am not sure, but I assume that a steady slower growth is better than a very quick growth that it will be doing with the publicity that the name brings it.

Kong is King
November 12, 2004 at 3:02 pm AST by Rodney MacLeod

Many of you know that the genius that brought us the Lord of the Rings trilogy is working on a remake of King Kong. Well he thought that you might like to know how it was going so he created a blog. I believe that all of his entryies are on video. I have not looked around too much yet, but it does look and sound pretty cool. There is a link to it here and over on the side menu.

This Old House
November 9, 2004 at 5:30 pm AST by Rodney MacLeod

There is a house back off the street on Queen Street. If you don’t look for it you probably will miss it. It is not a spectacular looking house, but it is about 150 years old and city council notices it. This house is a heritage home and because of this it is protected. You can read more about it here. But come back here and finish reading what I have to say.

Can You Spare a Key?
November 9, 2004 at 3:09 pm AST by Rodney MacLeod

Just got back from rescuing my sister in-law. She borrowed our roommate’s car and the key snapped off. Our room mate did not have a spare key. Luckily we were able to get the key out of the ignition and the locksmith at Burke’s on University Ave was able to cut a new key from the broken one.

Two weeks ago my brother was coming home from Halifax and stop off at the in-laws before he came to Charlottetown. While he was there he locked his keys in the car. This being our parent’s car they had an extra key and drove from Summerside to Tryon to unlock the door for him.
